Bikes, chocolate and calçotadas.Vilarnau winery is in the wine region area of Penedès
The noble Vilarnau family settled in the 12th century in this privileged land of Penedès. Vilarnau is the etymological result of Vila Arnau, meaning the "country house or Domus" of the Arnau family, located in the lordly demarcation of the term of the Castle of Subirats, where vineyards were already cultivated in the 12th century. Albert de Vilarnau, the current name of the brand's most exclusive cava, was a remarkable figure who expanded the family's power, and even in the 14th century, he was one of the patrons of the Santa Maria de Vilarnau church.
The first cava with the Vilarnau label was born in 1949 when the owning family began to market the cava produced by the vineyards planted on the estate "Can Petit i Les Planes de Vilarnau." Since then, Vilarnau has been associated with a cava of noble personality, crafted to demanding quality standards and paying the utmost attention to detail.
In 1982, it became part of the González Byass winery family. The new winery was located right in the center of the estate, and its inauguration took place in October 2005. The modern winery's design was created by architect Luis González. It features straight lines and stands out for its perfect adaptation to the beautiful Mediterranean surroundings through abundant glass windows. Three main elements integrate into the landscape: water, which surrounds the entire building and comes from rainwater, the glass of the windows, and the oak wood of the exterior walls. The interior has been largely designed by the renowned artist Antonio Miró, who has created a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
