Uruñuela is one of the towns within the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin (DOCa), one of the most important and prestigious designations of origin in Spain.
In Uruñuela, as in the rest of the Rioja, red wines are mainly made from Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo grapes. Some white and rosé wines are also produced.
Among Uruñuela's most outstanding wines are the crianza, reserva and gran reserva reds, which have been aged in oak barrels for a minimum period of time of one, two and five years, respectively. These wines have a great ageing capacity and can continue to improve in the bottle for many years.
In addition, Uruñuela is home to the Viñedos de Páganos winery, owned by the Eguren family, which produces high-end wines under the brands El Puntido, La Nieta and La Vendimia.
