San Asensio is a municipality located in the comarca of Haro, in the province of La Rioja, Spain.
San Asensio has a population of around 1,800 inhabitants.
The municipality is located in the heart of Rioja Alta, in an area of great wine tradition.
Some of the places of interest to visit in San Asensio are the church of San Saturnino, from the 16th century, and the hermitage of the Virgen de la Vega, from the 18th century.
San Asensio is known for its wineries and its wine, especially red wine made from the Tempranillo grape variety. Several wine-related festivals are held in the municipality throughout the year, such as the Grape Harvest Festival in September.
The gastronomy of San Asensio stands out for its local products, such as game meats and garden vegetables, as well as traditional dishes such as garlic soup and lamb with chilindrón (a spicy spicy sauce).
Finally, it is worth mentioning that San Asensio also celebrates the festival of San Asensio Mártir, on 3 May, in honour of the patron saint of the municipality.
