Temple of Diana: One of the most iconic monuments of Merida, a Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Diana. It was built in the 1st century BC.
Moorish Alcazaba: This is an Arab fortress dating from the 9th century. It was built on the remains of an ancient Roman fortress and stands on a hill with stunning views of the city.
National Museum of Roman Art: This is one of the most important museums in Spain dedicated to Roman art. It has a large collection of archaeological objects and works of art.
As for gastronomy, some typical dishes of the area that you can try during your stay in Mérida are:
Gazpacho: This is a cold dish made with tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, onion, garlic, olive oil, vinegar and bread. It is ideal for hot days.
El cochinillo: This is a typical dish from the region of Extremadura that is made with piglets less than a month old. It is simmered for several hours and served with potatoes.
Las migas extremeñas: This is a traditional dish made with bread, garlic, paprika and olive oil. It is usually accompanied by chorizo, bacon and torreznos (rashers of bacon).
Cheese: Extremadura is known for its goat's and sheep's cheese, which is made in most towns in the region.
The wines of the Ribera del Guadiana Designation of Origin: Mérida is located in one of the most important wine-growing areas of Extremadura, and you can enjoy some of the region's best wines during your stay.
