Almendralejo is another well-known town in Badajoz, and for us wine tourists it is interesting to know because it is the only town in Badajoz that produces cava.
What to visit:
Plaza de España: It is the main square of the city where the town hall and several historical buildings are located.
Castillo de Feria: A 15th century castle located on the outskirts of Almendralejo that has been restored and converted into a hotel.
Convent of San Antonio: It is an 18th century Franciscan convent with an impressive church with a baroque façade.
City Museum: It is a museum that tells the history of the city and its surroundings.
Wine cellars: Almendralejo is known for its wine production, so you can visit some of the local wine cellars to learn more about wine making and taste some of their wines.
What to eat:
Migas extremeñas: This is a typical Extremaduran dish made with bread, olive oil, garlic, paprika and accompanied by chorizo, bacon and other meats.
Roast suckling pig: This is a roast pork dish that is typical in many regions of Spain, including Extremadura.
Torta del Casar: A cheese made from sheep's milk from the region of Extremadura.
Tostas: It is a very common dish in Extremadura consisting of slices of toasted bread with various ingredients such as cheese, ham, tomato, olive oil, among others.
Regional wine: Almendralejo is famous for its wine production, so it is recommended to try some local wines such as Ribera del Guadiana.
