Lanciego is a municipality located in the province of Álava, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country in Spain. Below, I will mention some interesting places to visit in Lanciego or its surroundings, as well as some of its most typical dishes:
Plaza Mayor: This is the main square of the village, where you will find the church of San Acisclo and Santa Victoria. There are also several bars and restaurants with terraces to enjoy the local gastronomy.
Salt Museum: This is a small museum dedicated to the history of salt and its importance in the local economy.
Hermitage of Santa María de la Piscina: It is located on the outskirts of the village, in a spectacular natural setting. It is a Romanesque hermitage dating from the 13th century with a Baroque altarpiece.
In terms of gastronomy, Lanciego is known for its typical Basque dishes, such as grilled beef cutlet, cod in pil-pil sauce, hake in green sauce and Tolosa beans. It is also famous for its wine production, especially for the red wines of the Rioja Alavesa Qualified Designation of Origin, which are of high quality and have a great reputation throughout the world. In addition, in Lanciego you will find a wide variety of pintxos and tapas which are very popular in the region.
