Toro Wine Route passes through the following provinces : Zamora, with 17 wineries and Valladolid, with 3 wineries.
The Toro Wine Route crosses the provinces of Zamora, with 17 wineries, and Valladolid, with 3 wineries. Of the 6 localities that offer wine tourism, Toro, with 11 wineries, is a must-see destination.
The wines of this area are praised by the medieval writer Arcipreste de Hita, and were exported to America, replacing the French musts during the phylloxera.
The predominant grape is Tinta de Toro, also known as Tinto fino, which, in an extreme continental climate, grows in vineyards with stony, loose soils, good for drainage and aeration.
Although there are already Roman antecedents of vine cultivation, as in other wine regions of Spain, the definitive settlement of the vineyard takes place during the historical period of the Middle Ages. In the past, Toro wine was a pasty, strong wine, with high acidity and high alcohol content. Now, after a great effort to renew itself, especially by itinerant winemakers who have settled here, we have as a result wines of intense color, very aromatic and powerful, with a long finish, where Garnacha is often used as a complementary grape. If you are more of a white wine lover, you will also be able to taste white viniferas in this area, such as Malvasia or Verdejo.
Among the experiences offered by the route, it is important to highlight the viewpoint with beautiful views of the region at the Cyan wineries and the picnic lunch at the Vocarraje wineries.
