La Mancha Wine Route can be enjoyed by traveling through the provinces of Ciudad Real, with 9 wineries, Toledo, with 2 winerie, Cuenca, with 3 winerie and Albacete, with 2 wineries.
In a flat landscape of vines and cereals, which runs through an extensive plain, in the land where you can visit the Museum of Sara Montiel and the caves and windmills of Campo de Criptana and Alcazar de San Juan, is the famous wine route of La Mancha. Here the cultivation of wine is the result of the Christians who settled here after the reconquest in the XII and XIII centuries and is done in limestone soils with a continental climate (very hot summers and cold winters) on which the sun shines an average of 3000 hours a year. The most important grapes of this area are the white Airén, and the reds Tempranillo and Cenzibel. If you come to this route, you will know closely the paths that in the imagination of Cervantes walked Don Quixote and Sancho, and you will discover very famous dishes of the gastronomy of La Mancha as porridge, gazpacho and ratatouille, and other lesser known but very typical as migas pastor, atascaburras, duelos y quebrantos or morteruelo. These dishes can be accompanied by a wide variety of wines, both red, white, rosé and sparkling. Some wines are made with more 'strange' grapes for the area, such as Moravia agria, Prieto picudo or Tinto velasco.
Excellent option for those who love agritourism and the combination of wine with oil and cheese. In addition to the oil mill, visit their sheep and milking parlor.
