Known as the economic locomotive of Galicia, A Coruña has a long tradition that has its roots in Celtic culture and in legends and myths such as that of Hercules, who is said to have killed Geryon, the giant, here. Then, in the first century BC, Julius Caesar built the Tower of Hercules, which is the oldest lighthouse in the world that is still in operation. This is also the origin of Maria Pita, a political leader who confronted none other than the fearsome English pirate Drake, who, under the orders of Elizabeth I of England, wanted to invade the city. Famous for its love of science (it has three science museums), for its good quality of life, mild climate and dishes such as Galician octopus, raxo or empanada, which you can eat in its popular tascas. Among its scientific museums, we highlight the museum of man, unique in the world and a must visit. From its historic port, the invincible armada departed as well as the first expedition that brought to America the vaccine against chickenpox. Another original and 'atypical' place to visit is the floating breakwater, made entirely of used tires and which is located in front of the Castle of San Anton. If you visit this castle, you will see that inside it is the archaeological museum. If you go in the month of June, you can not miss the night of San Juan, a massive festival, declared of tourist interest, with fireworks and bonfires on the beach until dawn.
