History:

Pazo de Galegos is a small family-owned winery, founded in 1990 on historic vineyard land. Its purpose is to produce wines that are a true reflection of the terroir.

In 1980, Pazo de Galegos began the recovery of native vineyards and planted new ones. Ten years later, they inaugurated the winery, pioneering in the 5th sub-zone of Rías Baixas: Ribera del Ulla.

Facilities:

The winery is located at the top of the Ulla River valley as it passes through the municipality of Vedra in the province of A Coruña, 15 km from Santiago de Compostela.

Vineyards and soil:

The winery has 4 hectares of its own vineyards and another 4 hectares leased from local growers. Their vineyards are located at an average altitude of 226 meters, with an east-west orientation, slightly deviated to seek the sun's rays in the early hours of the day, when the plant has the greatest photosynthetic activity.

In this valley with an Atlantic climate, but with "Mediterranean" connotations, the soils are mostly sandy-loam, ideal for vines. The training system is espalier, with a distance between plants of 1.20 m and between rows of 2.25 m. This promotes competition between vines and achieves vegetative dormancy just at the beginning of veraison to achieve perfect ripening. Phytosanitary treatments are always minimal.

Their own weather station, in collaboration with the Xunta de Galicia, and daily monitoring of soil and environmental humidity, hours of sunshine, day and night temperatures, etc., precisely determines the moment of maximum risk of infection, thus optimizing the use of phytosanitary products.
