Montiel is a small town located in the province of Ciudad Real, in Castilla-La Mancha. It has a population of around 800 inhabitants.
Montiel's historical and artistic heritage is outstanding, such as Montiel Castle, which is the town's most emblematic monument and is of great historical importance, as the Battle of Montiel took place here, in which King Peter I of Castile died. You can also visit the church of San Sebastián and the hermitage of the Virgen de la Cabeza.
As far as gastronomy is concerned, some typical dishes of the area are gachas (porridge), migas (fried breadcrumbs), gazpacho manchego, roast lamb and Manchego cheese. Good wines are also produced under the La Mancha D.O., which you can find in some of the local bars and restaurants.
There are no windmills in Montiel, but you can find some in the nearby town of Campo de Criptana, about 30 km away.
