Winery Presentation
Founded in the early 1990s, Quinta do Portal is a Portuguese, family-owned, and independent estate that has embraced the "Boutique Winery" concept with passion. Our family has been producing Port wine in the Pinhão River Valley for over 100 years, but our presence in the Douro Region dates back at least to 1477, when King Afonso V granted the encomienda of Oliveira in Riba de Douro to the noble Don Afonso de Mansilha.

Our dedication extends to the production of Douro wines, special categories of Port wines, as well as Muscatels and olive oil. The project, realized in the early 1990s, was built upon Quinta dos Muros, a century-old property of the Mansilha family, which had been producing Port wine for four generations. From the beginning, we envisioned creating internationally-classed Douro wines, becoming part of the first wave of the new generation of Douro producers who believed in the potential of still wines from the region.
Our winemaking and production are overseen by Paulo Coutinho, who has been with us since 1994. We receive technical support from Pascal Chatonnet for Douro wines since 1992, and we have also had the privilege of working with Jeremy Bull on Port wines during the turn of the century.
Quality has always been our hallmark, as evidenced by the numerous national and international awards given to our wines and oils, as well as the various services at Quinta do Portal.
**The Hotel**
The Casa das Pipas is a charming small winery hotel located among the vineyards of Quinta do Portal. It features twelve south-facing rooms, a large swimming pool, a children’s pool, a panoramic lounge, a wine library, and all the comforts in a casual, tranquil, and elegant setting where guests can enjoy a unique experience.
Accommodation is complemented by Casa do Lagar, an old olive oil press converted into four rooms, each painted a different color as was typical in the Douro and Trás-os-Montes regions.
