Cova da Beira: Where tradition and terroir meet in every glass.
Adega do Fundão winery is in the wine region area of Beira Interior

The cultivation of vines in the Cova da Beira region is ancient, dating back to the time when the Romans occupied the Iberian Peninsula. Evidence of this was found at a vineyard called "A Forca," near Fundão, where a statuette of an Atlantean Canephorus from the 2nd century AD was discovered, along with millstones and Roman bricks. Recently, grape seeds were found at Quintas da Torre (in the municipality of Fundão), dating from the late 3rd to early 4th century, and their DNA is currently being studied. In this village, counterweights from ancient presses, already of industrial size for their time, have also been uncovered.

WINE PROFILE
The contrast between the south and north of the Serra da Gardunha adds richness to our wines. Grapes from the southern Gardunha are more concentrated and have a higher alcohol content, resulting in full-bodied wines with ripe fruit flavors and greater structure. From the northern Gardunha come elegance, freshness, and acidity. These characteristics give white wines aromatic exuberance and freshness, while red wines exhibit an intense nose and excellent acidity, granting them outstanding aging potential.
