Essence of Lisbon wine.Adega Cooperativa de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo winery is in the wine region area of Beira Interior
At the foot of the Serra da Marofa, between the valleys of the Côa and Águeda rivers, which flow into the international and neighboring Douro River, lies Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, a town with a wine-growing tradition where high-quality wines are produced.
It was around the 12th century that the Cistercian monks inhabited the Convent of Santa Maria de Aguiar and, with their knowledge, started growing vines and producing wine in the region.
Today, Adega Castelo Rodrigo is the heir to this knowledge and art.
Founded in 1956 by 154 members, it currently has 350.
On average, it receives approximately 6,500,000 kg of grapes every year, producing around 4,800,000 liters of wine, of which around 55% is white and the remaining 45% red.
Our winery belongs to the Demarcated Region of Beira Interior, sub-region of Castelo Rodrigo. This sub-region is characterized by a Continental/Mediterranean climate, with soils where shales and sandstones prevail.
The predominant grape varieties are, in the case of white grapes: Síria, Malvasia Fina, Arinto and Fonte Cal, while in the case of red grapes: Mourisco, Marufo, Rufete, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.
Wines of unquestionable quality have always been created over the years, as confirmed by the considerable number of awards our winery has won both nationally and internationally.
