The Ribeiro wine route passes through the province of Orense and, officially, according to the website of the route, it has a winery, but we have also included the leisure center Pazo de Toubes, because it houses a winery, managed by the winery Viña Costeira, and they offer wine tourism.
As its name suggests, on this route you can taste wines from the D.O. Ribeiro, one of the five denominations of origin in Galicia, and they are young wines, with moderate acidity and fruity aroma. The Treixadura grape is the most typical local grape, although others such as Torrontés, Loureira, Godello and Albariño are also used.
Within the Ribeiro, you can find a variety of wine qualified as a 'jewel of enology', and which is known as the toasted wine of Ribeiro. This is a sweet wine, which is made from a must obtained from a selection of the best raisined grapes. It is often said that making this wine is laborious, and, in addition, as we have mentioned, not all the grapes, nor all the harvests of the vintages are worth, so its production is scarce. If you are lucky enough to taste it, you will be lucky.
Normally, Ribeiro is paired with fish and seafood; if you want to try it with cheeses or sausages, these have to be very soft.
In addition, if you come to visit this area, you can combine your love of wine with health tourism, because here you can find spas to relax and where you can take wine therapy treatments.
As for the popular festivals related to wine, the last Sunday of August is celebrated the Festa da Vendimia in Leiro.
