According to the winery’s website, Viña Falernia was founded in 1998 after Aldo Olivier Gramola discovered the potential for producing high-quality wines in this seemingly arid valley!
Aldo, who settled with his family in the Elqui Valley in 1951, came from Italy and had been producing grapes since 1975. The project was conceived after he met with his cousin Giorgio Flessati, an oenologist from the Trento region in northern Italy.
This is an innovative venture, as Viña Falernia represents the northern frontier of Chilean wines and is far from the traditional wine-producing areas of Chile.
The driving force behind the winery has been a passion for wine and the challenge of transforming a semi-arid region into lush vineyards with the potential to produce excellent quality wines, utilizing the latest technology.
Additionally, the winery benefits from the support of agronomists from prestigious universities in Chile and renowned oenologists from around the world.
