More than 160 years of history dedicated to producing top-quality wines make us one of the Chilean wineries with the longest track record and industry leaders.
Viña Cousiño Macul is included in the Valle del Maipo wine regionOur wines capture the essence of Chile's winemaking tradition, dating back over 500 years to a territory that was designated during colonial times by order of the King of Spain for the production of País and Moscatel grape varieties, to supply wine for the Eucharist and a part of Chilean society. The task of fulfilling this mission was entrusted to Juan Jufré, a Spanish conquistador and former owner of the land where the Macul estate now stands. It took 300 years until Matías Cousiño acquired the 1,000 hectares of the Macul estate in 1856. It was there, on the slopes of the Andes Mountains, that this fertile territory, nourished by the Las Perdices springs and the San Carlos canal, became the foundation of what would later become a successful family business founded by Luis Cousiño and his wife Isidora Goyenechea, following the death of his father, Don Matías Cousiño. The Birth of the Vineyard Upon inheriting the Macul estate, the Cousiño Goyenechea couple set out to fulfill the family's dream of starting wine production. They decided to renew the vines that were cultivated at the time and brought the first flagship grape varieties from France, which are still part of our DNA today. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were imported from the Pauillac region, Sauvignon Verde and Gris from the Martillac region, and Riesling from Alsace, the latter being an exclusive white grape variety personally selected by Doña Isidora.
