*Al Zagal S.L. Wineries* is a company within the food sector, dedicated to the production, aging, bottling, and marketing of wines with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Granada.

Born out of a passion for the world of wine, this project began in 2000, full of enthusiasm and a drive to create top-quality wines with flavors and qualities that are characteristic of our region’s lands, located over 1,000 meters above sea level in the northern part of the province. These unique wines stand out within the national scene. This objective has driven us over the years to become one of the leading wineries behind the creation of the PDO Granada, whose first regulation was introduced in 2009, finally consolidating with a second approval published in the Official Gazette of the Government of Andalusia on Friday, February 23, 2018. This designation entails exhaustive control and monitoring of the entire grape cycle, from cultivation to bottling.

The name of our wines comes from the Sultan Abū `AbdAllāh Muhammad az-Zaghall of Granada, known by the Christians as *Al Zagal* (the brave), who was the king of Granada from 1485 to 1486 under the name of Muhammed XIII.

Brother of King Muley Hacén, when his nephew Boabdil overthrew his father in 1482, Al Zagal fought alongside his brother in the civil war of Granada and inherited the throne in 1485. He became the penultimate king of the Nasrid dynasty of Granada, taking advantage of the fact that Boabdil had been captured by the Catholic Monarchs during a raid in Lucena (Córdoba). Al Zagal is generally considered the best strategist among the three sultans who fought for the throne.

He reached an agreement with Boabdil, in which his nephew would command the city of the Alhambra, while Al Zagal was recognized as the lord of the other major cities of the Nasrid kingdom (Málaga, Almería, and Guadix). After the fall of Málaga, following a harsh siege by Christian forces, Al Zagal declared himself a vassal of the Catholic Monarchs in 1489, handing over the cities of Almería and Guadix to them.

We invite you to explore our products from the origin of the raw materials, 100% from Granada, to the vineyards, the winery facilities, and the entire process from harvest to bottling and labeling. The care of the plantations, the selection of grapes, the use of modern technology, and meticulous winemaking—rooted in the land and the unique climate of our vineyards at over 1,100 meters above sea level in the Sierra Nevada plateau—are key reasons for the high quality our wines have achieved in recent years. To experience this, all you need to do is taste our products, which you can explore further by visiting our website.
