Wine tourism in Ruta del Vino la Manchuela

Wine from La Mancha that delights you.

The Manchuela Wine Route covers the provinces of Albacete and Cuenca with seven and three wineries respectively. Of the eight wine towns on the route, Fuentealbilla is one of the most outstanding wine tourism destinations.

Manchuela is a relatively young appellation, although in this area there has always been a great winemaking tradition. Located between the Júcar and Cabriel rivers, in its beginnings, the wine produced was bulk wine or wine destined for blending. Many of the lands of Manchuela are polycultures, and in them, the vineyard coexists with cereals, olive trees, fruit trees and pine trees. We have already seen this in other areas, for example, in Lérida or Lleida, with the DO Costers del Segre or also on the Gran Canaria route. The Manchuela vineyard is influenced by a continental climate, with humid winds from the Levant, and the most common cultivation system is in goblet. As for the most widespread grape, we have to name the Cenzibel, which is not only here where it is cultivated more frequently, but also throughout Castilla la Mancha. However, if you are asked which is the native grape of the area, you must say that it is not the Cenzibel, but the Bobal grape, which is the house brand. This grape results in wines with supreme tannins and a more than acceptable acidity. It is usually considered a suitable grape for rosé wines. Finally, as a curious detail, we will emphasize that here, as in other areas, the creation of wine goes back a long time, that this tradition has been very artisanal and domestic, and transmitted from parents to children through generations, and proof of this are the numerous houses in the area that have wine stored in domestic caves.
