Wine tourism by town in Pontevedra

Albariño, legendary wines with the soul of the sea.

The Rías Baixas wine route runs through the province of Pontevedra. Forty-eight wineries take part in it, spread over fourteen towns, of which Cambados is the most important destination. In fact, it is precisely in this wine town where the Albariño Festival is held, a celebration that every year brings together more than one hundred thousand people. Albariño wine is a young and fresh wine, with a characteristic straw-yellow colour, exotic according to some, and of great quality, according to most experts, as it is a wine that is even internationally recognised, to the point of having been called a universal wine. As it could not be otherwise, the most frequently used grape is Albariña; however, other varieties are also used, some of them autochthonous, others not, but which we will list below in case you are curious to taste them in some of your visits: Loureira blanca, Treixadura, Cariño Blanco, Torrontés and Godello. Last but not least, we urge you to go to O Grove if you are a fan of seafood because one of the most important seafood festivals in the province is held there, and you know what they say about Galician seafood, that it is fine and full of flavour. For architecture lovers, here in Pontevedra you will find many centuries-old pazos, some of which are integrated into the wineries themselves. Wine tourism, with vineyards stretching down to the sea and sunset tastings, can be combined with shopping in traditional markets, a very common practice; you can also combine it with health tourism, as Galicia has many thermal baths and spas, to relax and reconnect with your body. Pontevedra has a simply marvellous historic centre, presided over by the sculpture of the great Valle-Inclán, which welcomes you to the city. Pontevedra celebrates the popular festival Festa dos Maios, and if you come to eat, because in Galicia, you come for many things, but among them, you come to eat well, to eat luxury, you can't miss the oysters, mussels, octopus, cockle pies and xoubas. If you want a fish with a strange taste for which there is a great diversity of opinions, there you have the lamprey.
